Our Story

OUR STORY

We commenced breeding American grey Brahmans in 1960 at the “The Orient”, with the importation of bulls and females from JD Hudgins Ranch, Hungerford Texas.

These cattle formed the nucleus of the Tropical Cattle Brahman Stud and have had a significant influence on the direction of our cattle breeding program over the six decades since.

American embryos give a leading edge

In the early 1980’s Tropical Cattle created history by bringing the first US Brahman embryos into Australia.  Working with Leslie (Bubba) Hudgins, we conducted an embryo program in Canada using a selection of top Hudgins females and JDH Rexcrata Manso 298; a generation leading bull.

The progeny successfully calved out at “The Orient”, infusing additional JD Hudgins bloodlines and continuing our established relationship with the Hudgins stud.  We accessed best in herd bloodlines, bred by one family on the same ranch with over 100 years of breeding behind them.

Subsequent embryo and IVF programs using these genetically superior animals were conducted to create a herd of pure American Grey Brahmans underpinned by contemporary Hudgins genetics.

Fixed time AI benefits our buyers

Tropical Cattle continues to infuse top quality American Grey and Australian Poll Grey Brahman genetics into its herd, producing a brand of cattle that service the needs of our customers.

Innovation and quality

The recently added Rockhampton division adds a new dimension to Tropical Cattle’s operations. A certified quarantine facility, located in the beef capital of Australia, is used for our donors and IVF breeding programs.

Our buyers have benefited from our consistent innovation with new reproductive technologies.
